Are you interested in volunteering your financial planning skills to help low-income and/or low-asset New Yorkers?

The FPANY Pro Bono committee encourages new members to gain experience through a process of training, observation, and hands-on experience. Prior to presenting, three required elements should be completed:

  1. A monthly Pro Bono Boot Camp is offered on an on-request basis on the Monday following each month’s meeting from 5:30-6:30pm via phone conference and online presentation or in person (the option is yours).
  2. A separate one-hour video viewing online followed by an online quiz yields one CE for CFP® certificants, is required to be added to the chapters Errors & Omissions insurance coverage.
  3. New members gain valuable experience and they often start by observing an experienced planner conduct a workshop or an individual financial planning session. Typically new members observe two sessions before presenting on their own. New planners are supervised by an experienced CFP® certificant.

Attendance at the monthly Pro Bono committee meetings is not required for service, but is offered to continue advisors' education to better serve low-income and/or low-asset clients. Conference call-in facilities are offered for every meeting as an alternative to attending in person.
