Topic: Heckerling Update - How planners should adapt to estate law changes

Presenter: Kevin Matz, Esq., CPA, LL.M - Kevin Matz & Associates PLLC

Program Description:

Kevin Matz will provide an update on estate planning changes and how planners should be adapting their strategies to incorporate these changes. Kevin will address the future of the estate tax, Section 2704 proposed regulations, consistency of basis and portability of QTIP elections. Kevin will also touch on some of the other big topics from the Heckerling Institute of Estate Planning.

Learning Objective:

This session will focus on identifying and describing components of estate planning with a focus on recent changes in estate law. Participants will learn to identify clients who may be affected by these changes and the best ways to implement a change in the estate plan if necessary. The speaker will describe how changing rules will effect various types of trusts utilized in clients estates and describe how these trusts will be used in the estate plan.

Level of Complexity: Intermediate

Applying for 1.5 CFP® CE credits with the CFP Board. You can also earn 1.5 CPE credits for NY licensed CPAs.

About our Speaker:

Kevin Matz is the managing attorney of Kevin Matz & Associates PLLC, with offices in Midtown Manhattan and White Plains, New York, where his practice is principally devoted to domestic and international estate and tax planning, estate administration and related litigation. Mr. Matz earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law (where he was a Notes & Articles Editor of the Fordham Law Review) and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and was a senior associate in the private clients group of White & Case LLP and a Partner at a medium-sized law firm in Midtown Manhattan prior to starting his own law firm in 2009. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (“ACTEC”), and a member of the New York City Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (the “NYSSCPA”), among other professional organizations, and has helped to draft several of the City Bar’s, the State Bar’s and the NYSSCPA’s comment letters to both the United States Department of Treasury and the New York State legislative and executive branches.
